Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, curly hair benefits from a cut tailored to its natural pattern. Curls behave differently to straight hair once dry, so a generalist cut can leave shape and volume uneven. We cut with the curl's natural fall in mind, rather than forcing it into a straight-hair silhouette. We also teach you how to replicate your best curl styling at home.
-
A curly cut is shaped to account for how each curl springs up and sits once fully dry, not just how the hair falls when wet or straightened. Techniques like dry cutting and curl-by-curl shaping are common, so the finished style works with your natural texture rather than against it.
-
We work with the full spectrum of curl patterns, from loose waves (2A) through to tight coils and kinks (4C). Every curl type is welcome, and your consultation is tailored to your specific pattern, porosity and density.
-
Most of curly clients come in every 3-6 months, depending on their hair goals. weeks. Proper care for curls means that split ends happen less often, ad curls spring as they are cut, therefore needing longer between cut appointments to maintain shape.
-
It means your natural texture isn't a problem to be corrected — it's the starting point for your style. Our approach is to cut, colour and style in a way that enhances your curl pattern, rather than treating curls as something to straighten out or tame.
Curl Education and Philosophy
-
Come in with your hair in its natural state — freshly washed or a day old is fine, but avoid heat styling or straightening beforehand. Please don’t put your hair in a ponytail, plait, or wear a hat as this can alter your curl pattern. This lets us see your true curl pattern and give you an accurate consultation and cut. -
A first visit typically runs 2-3 hours and includes a full consultation, cut and style. This gives us time to properly assess your curl pattern and talk through a maintenance plan you can actually stick to at home, as well as a full basin service to show you how to achieve great curls at home.
-
We'll look at your curl pattern, porosity and scalp condition, talk through your hair history and goals, and agree on a cut and product plan before any scissors come out. It's a two-way conversation, not a five-minute chat before you're in the chair.
-
We mostly dry cut, depending on your curl pattern. Dry cutting lets us see exactly how each curl sits and springs, we then refresh your hair completely (and give you a relaxing scalp massage) stlye it and dry fully, checking the cut again for balance once dry
